The challenge
Loads are rarely shared equally by every caster during turns, ramps, thresholds or uneven floors. Dividing total mass by caster count is only a starting point.
02
Operating conditions
Capture maximum payload, equipment tare weight, caster layout, shocks, towing or manual speed, travel frequency and floor transitions.
03
Caster selection factors
- Apply an engineering safety margin appropriate to the duty cycle and uncertainty.
- Check both rated load and mounting structure capacity.
- Review wheel diameter where joints, debris or ramps are present.
04
Recommended configuration path
Filter by the calculated load range first, then compare wheel material, bearing, swivel control and mounting plate dimensions. Keep rigid and swivel positions consistent with the steering plan.
05
Engineering notes
Final capacity must be checked against the supplier rating method and the complete equipment test plan. This article is not a load certification.
