A workstation caster must balance easy manual movement with controlled positioning. Static load alone does not describe the force needed to start, turn or cross floor joints.

Record equipment mass, caster count, push frequency, travel distance, floor condition and whether the operator changes direction in confined space.

Caster selection factors

  • Larger wheel diameters generally roll over small floor irregularities more easily.
  • Bearing, tread resilience and wheel width all influence starting and steering effort.
  • Check the mounting envelope before comparing performance options.
